If the close call from Mauricio Dubon and Ron Wotus’ collision had a humor element, that was absent in the scary moment in the sixth inning.
During the Giants-Rockies game at Oracle Park, home-plate umpire Kerwin Danley, 59, went down after a foul ball off Sam Hilliard’s bat clipped him in the mask.
The tense game screeched to a halt while the veteran umpire lay on the ground for several minutes. Several trainers immediately rushed the field to check on Danley, who was helped to his feet several minutes later and was able to walk off the field. Danley has a history of concussions.
Play resumed as Ryan Additon assumed the home-plate umpire position.
