Giants’ valuable lefty goes on injured list

LOS ANGELES — Beating the Dodgers twice in a row did not cure the Giants’ injury issues.

Caleb Baragar is the latest victim, the lefty placed on the injured list with left elbow inflammation before Sunday’s finale in Los Angeles. He felt some stiffness warming up Saturday, Gabe Kapler said, and they will shut him down for a little while.

“We don’t sense this is going to be a long time on the IL,” said Kapler, though Baragar will see Dr. Ken Akizuki on Monday, when they’ll have a better feel for the timetable.

The Giants called up righty Nick Tropeano, who had been optioned Saturday.

The loss of Baragar is significant, as he has continued to be a valuable middle-inning option who has had command issues but no results issues. He’s allowed one earned run in 17 1/3 innings. Jarlin Garcia likely will be relied upon more, and he has pitched well since himself returning from the injured list.

Tropeano will represent another long option out of the pen, which could be needed after Scott Kazmir pitched Saturday (and not well).

The Giants’ starting lineup against Clayton Kershaw did not feature Buster Posey, Brandon Crawford or Mike Yastrzemski. They have outlined the plan for Posey, which is mostly two on, one off, while maximizing starts between off days. He had played two in a row and would be in position to play both Monday and Tuesday against the Angels.

It’s a similar principle with Crawford and Yastrzemski, as the team is trying to be cautious and not overwork the regulars.

The full lineup:

1. Austin Slater, LF
2. Donovan Solano, 2B
3. Wilmer Flores, 1B
4. Evan Longoria, 3B
5. Mauricio Dubón, SS
6. Steven Duggar, CF
7. Curt Casali, C
8. Mike Tauchman, RF
9. Kevin Gausman, RHP

Aaron Sanchez (right bicep tightness) has been in Florida during his throwing progression. He is expected to throw a side session Monday.
