The Giants not only brought their bats this weekend to Los Angeles, but their swords, too.
Nine days after Trevor Bauer celebrated a strikeout of Alex Dickerson by sheathing his invisible sword — yeah, it’s weird — Mauricio Dubon remembered. The Giants’ Sunday shortstop got a four-seamer from Clayton Kershaw on the first pitch of his at-bat and whacked it down the left-field line, clanking it off the foul pole. He watched it from home plate, then circled the bases. When he touched home, he appeared to also put his sword away.
The Giants have said publicly they did not mind the antics of Bauer, who is as willing a villain in the rivalry as possible. His introduction to Oracle Park had a clear WWE feel, and Dubon, one of the more expressive and fun players on the Giants, was a clear candidate for revenge.
The Giants are trying to get their own revenge after the Dodgers swept them last weekend. Dubon’s homer put them up 3-0 in the first inning of the finale after the Giants claimed two of the first three games of the series.
