Longoria leaves game after nasty infield collision with Crawford

Saturday’s game against the Cubs was looking like another fairly breezy Giants victory. Then the ninth inning happened.

If for some reason you missed the game don’t worry, San Francisco still pulled out the win 4-3. They did so at the expense of Evan Longoria, however, who left the game after colliding with Brandon Crawford when both players attempted to field a ground ball. Longoria laid in a heap for a few minutes before leaving under his own power. It is unclear if he sustained an injury to his head, shoulder or both.

It’s hard not to think that all of this could’ve been avoided. Mauricio Dubon seemed to get a case of the yips after entering late in Saturday’s game. Dubon had trouble getting the ball out of his glove on consecutive plays in the final inning, costing the Giants two outs on infield ground balls.

Ultimately, the ever reliable Tyler Rogers got the job done with a ground ball to Donovan Solano to end the game, with Cubs runners on second and third base.
