George Kittle explains why Trey Lance is ‘definitely in the right spot’

There are few better spokespeople than George Kittle. Whether he’s shopping a product, talking about football, his teammates, or wrestling, the man can sell. He joined Good Morning Football on Tuesday and did just that, talking about both Trey Lance and Jimmy Garoppolo.

Kittle said he believes Lance has all the necessary traits to succeed, and is in the perfect situation under Kyle Shanahan.

“He has all the attributes to be a very good, very special quarterback,” Kittle said. “He’s a freak athlete. I think really one of my favorite things about him right now just as a rookie, is that he takes risks. He doesn’t complete all the passes that he throws, but he’s trying to fit it into those small windows and he’s just trying to throw it as hard as he can to get that wide receiver going through the second window.

And I think that’s really fun just to see a guy take risks, especially when he just turned 21 years old, and now he can just buy me some Bud Light finally. I’m excited to see just his progress throughout training camp. He’s an eager guy that wants to learn, and I know that when you’re in a room with Coach Shanahan, the mastermind, he’s gonna learn a lot, so I think he’s definitely in the right spot.”

As for the dynamic between Lance and Garoppolo, Kittle said it’s gone well, in large part due to Garoppolo being proactive about reaching out to Lance.

“There’s a story that came out that Jimmy Garoppolo was one of the first guys to text Trey Lance, and that’s just the type of guy that Jimmy is,” Kittle said. “He’s not going to shy away from adversity, shy away from a draft pick. He has a fire lit under him and he’s excited to roll… I think Jimmy played one of his best OTA balls.”
