It’s been a tough couple weeks for Sixers president of basketball operations Daryl Morey. Not only did Philadelphia get knocked out of the playoffs by the lower-seeded Hawks on Sunday night, Morey’s wallet is also a little lighter thanks to a recent ill advised tweet.

Morey and the 76ers were fined $75,000 each by the league for a tampering violation, that stemmed from a tweet by Morey in which he seemed to be openly recruiting Stephen Curry to join his brother Seth in Philly.

Morey tried to backtrack immediately, tweeting “My goodness folks I am talking about the fact that we are all thrilled @sdotcurry is here with the @sixers — nothing else!” This didn’t work, however, as Morey was fined a day later.

If you need further evidence that Morey knew he screwed up, Warriors owner Joe Lacob provided it on Monday, telling Tim Kawakami on the “TK Show” podcast that Morey called him after sending the tweet to sort of apologize.

“It’s funny. I was watching some draft guys at a workout in Southern California. “And I got this call from Daryl Morey saying, ‘Hey. I don’t know if you saw it, but I didn’t mean what I said.’ And I didn’t even know what he was talking about,” Lacob said with a chuckle.

“Frankly, I was busy. It was a little unusual to receive a call from Daryl Morey. I know him but he doesn’t usually call me. But he did, because I guess he was trying to front run the reaction.

“I didn’t actually see the comments until a few days later and I saw what the NBA did. To be honest with you, I wasn’t really focused on that.”
