Latest mock draft has Giants targeting ‘best bat in the ’21 college draft class’

All of a sudden the MLB Draft is upon us. On Sunday, the future of the league will start to come into focus, and the Giants will look to bolster their farm system with the No. 14 overall pick.

At that spot, there aren’t really any locks, but ESPN’s baseball insider Kiley McDaniel took a shot at assessing what the Giants are looking for.

With the 14th pick, McDaniel mocked left-hitting outfielder Colton Cowser, who MLB.com quotes as the “best bat in the ’21 college Draft class with a controlled approach although some scouts question his arm in center.”

McDaniel wrote that Cowser, “one of a couple of players I think the Giants are looking for here, with Colson Montgomery (shortstop) and Jordan Wicks (left-handed pitcher) among their other targets.”

Cowser, out of Sam Houston State, absolutely raked in 2021. He slashed .374/.490/.680 in 55 games with 16 home runs, 52 RBIs and 17 stolen bases. On a 162-game scale, that would be about 47 home runs, 153 RBIs and 50 stolen bases.
