There’s nothing quite like a mid-game baseball trade. You can’t find a guy getting yanked from a game, sent to the dugout and immediately packing his bags anywhere else.
That’s what the Giants watched in the waning innings of Sunday’s 6-1, sweep-stopping win over the Pittsburgh Pirates as star second baseman Adam Frazier, who leads MLB in hits, was traded. He went 0-for-4 on Sunday and didn’t get a fifth plate appearance.
According to ESPN’s Jeff Passan, Frazier is being sent to the San Diego Padres in return for three prospects, with shortstop Tucupita Marcano the leading name.

MLB.com ranks Marcano, a 21-year-old infielder, as the Padres’ fifth-best prospect; he’s currently in Triple-A and has a 2021 ETA for his MLB debut. The other two prospects are high-OPS outfielder Jack Suwinski and right-hand pitcher Mitchell Milliano, who’s struck out 59 batters in 30 innings.
Frazier, meanwhile, has a .324 batting average and MLB-leading 125 hits. He is 10-for-31 with four extra-base hits, three walks and two RBIs against San Francisco in seven games this season.
