We’re less than two weeks into training camp and already it’s clear the 49ers have a bit of a depth issue at a couple positions. That’s not to say there’s any crisis going on; through the early stages, the 49ers have avoided the sort of injury catastrophe they ran into last year, which was largely a product of a rushed offseason and extremely limited team numbers due to NFL COVID-19 protocols.

Head coach Kyle Shanahan admitted after practice on Tuesday — the 49ers’ first padded practice of training camp — that they’d probably need to add a cornerback, given that Emmanuel Moseley remains on the Reserve/COVID-19 list, Dontae Johnson is day-to-day and missed practice (after being pulled mid-practice on Monday) with a foot injury and Tim Harris Jr. will be out a few weeks with a groin issue. That left Ken Webster as the team’s starting corner opposite Jason Verrett.

According to Texans reporter Aaron Wilson, who covers transactions around the league, the 49ers worked out two corners in B.W. Webb and Lafayette Pitts, along with tight end Ben Koyack.

The current tight end group lost MyCole Pruitt for a while with a calf injury, and Jordan Matthews, who converted to tight end from wide receiver over the summer, was recently signed to help pick up the slack.
