Trey Lance’s first career pass is 49ers’ first touchdown of the season

Well, that didn’t take long.

On the 49ers’ second drive of the season, Trey Lance took two snaps. The first was on a quarterback keeper that gained a little over a yard. The second was a five-yard touchdown pass to Trent Sherfield, his first ever attempt as a pro, and San Francisco’s first touchdown of the season.

It’s not exactly the type of swapping we saw in the 49ers’ preseason finale vs. the Raiders, but it’s clear from the jump that Kyle Shanahan has no problem inserting Lance frequently and in high leverage situations.

Lance did not feature in the 49ers’ first drive because it lasted just one play, with Jimmy Garoppolo and center Alex Mack bungling the snap.
