Chadwick Tromp is now an Atlanta Brave.

The 26-year-old appeared in nine games with the Giants this year and 33 in his career. The Giants designated the catching prospect for assignment last Saturday to make room on the 40-man roster for Alex Wood. Atlanta, after winning the final game of its three-game series at Oracle Park, claimed Tromp off waivers.

Tromp began his professional baseball career in the Cincinnati Reds organization in 2013. The Giants signed him to a minor league contract before 2020 spring training.

With the Giants expected to either offer starting catcher Buster Posey a contract extension or pick up his club option for 2022, there’s not an immediate need at the position. Veteran Curt Casali has produced as Posey’s backup, and the organization has also invested in prospect Joey Bart — SF’s 2018 first round pick.

In other roster news, reliever Reyes Moronta cleared waivers and was outrighted to Triple-A Sacramento. It’s unclear when SF placed Moronta on waivers, but no other team expressed interest.

Moronta was very effective in his first three seasons with the Giants, posting a sub-3.00 ERA from 2017 to 2019. He carved out a role as a high-leverage reliever.

But a torn labrum caused him to miss the 2020 season. After recovering, he’s since struggled to find his command and regain his pre-surgery velocity. In Triple-A this year, Moronta has walked 11 batters per nine innings, more than double his previous career high. His ERA has ballooned to 7.98 in Sacramento.

Moronta, 28, made the Giants’ 2021 Opening Day roster, but only pitched in four games. He remains in the San Francisco organization for now, but his future with the club is in question.
