The Giants brought out some heavy hitters for Games 1 and 2 of the NLDS. It sounds like Game 5 won’t be any different.
“There will be some recognizable figures on the field again tomorrow,” Giants President Larry Baer said on KNBR, understandably refusing to reveal any names.
“Recognizable they will be for fans of Bay Area sports, San Francisco sports and also fans of the Giants-Dodgers rivalry, because there will be some good recollections presented pregame.”
Baer did say that Willie Mays, one of the few players still alive who played in the legendary “Shot Heard Round the World” game in 1951, is unlikely to attend.
Game 1 saw Mike Krukow and Duane Kuiper on the field to make the first pitch, followed by Steve Young and Jerry Rice getting the crowd hyped up with a “Beat LA” chant. Game 2 saw playoff hero Travis Ishikawa throw the first pitch, with mainstay “E-40” grabbing the mic and whipping Oracle into a frenzy.
The Giants are unmatched when it comes to pomp and circumstance, so whoever is on hand Thursday night, you can be confident it’s going to be good.
