49ers-Jaguars Inactives: Running back room gets thin

As the 49ers get set to face a top-10 rush defense in Jacksonville, they’ll do so without two of their weapons in that room.

It was confirmed Sunday morning that running back Elijah Mitchell, who fractured a finger against the Rams and was listed as doubtful, will not play. Neither will running back JaMycal Hasty, who has an ankle injury.

That means Jeff Wilson Jr. will take the lead and rookie Trey Sermon, who has had a much-maligned season due to a lack of involvement in the offense, will get an opportunity. Or at least, Sermon should get an opportunity; Kyle Juszczyk and Deebo Samuel could also be tabbed for touches, and there’s never a clear way to know how Kyle Shanahan will deploy his backup running backs. The only other active back on the roster is special teamer Trenton Cannon.

San Francisco’s other two inactives are defensive tackle Maurice Hurst (calf) and offensive lineman Colton McKivitz (healthy scratch).

Jacksonville, meanwhile, will have their star running back James Robinson, who was questionable with a heel and knee injury. Below is their inactive list, which includes former Seahawks tight end Jacob Hollister:
