If the 49ers traded Jimmy Garoppolo today, what would they get in return?

More than a third-round pick if you believe the latest from Ian Rapoport, who said the most recent offer for the 49ers quarterback was a third-round pick when he joined KNBR on Monday.

The NFL trade deadline was Nov. 3, meaning at the latest, a team though Garoppolo was worth a third-rounder after San Francisco’s win over the Bears. Since that time Jimmy G has been one of the most efficient quarterbacks in the NFL. It stands to reason that he’d be worth at least a second-rounder now, and maybe this offseason if his solid play continues.

“Obviously, they’ve had offers for Jimmy Garoppolo in the past,” Rapoport told Murph & Mac. “The most recent, I believe, was a third-rounder that they got [offered]. If he keeps playing like this, then they should be able to get more. I mean, they could actually end up getting back the second-rounder that they originally traded him for, which if you think about it, the second-rounder, plus all those years of service, plus a trip to the Super Bowl, that’s really good value in a trade.

“So that was my point. I thought, honestly, it was mostly obvious. So to hear someone ask about the report, I think it’s great. People should always ask about the report. But to me, it was very clear what the 49ers were doing.”
