49ers Injuries: Emmanuel Moseley out a while, and another Elijah Mitchell worry

The 49ers did not leave Seattle with a win, nor did they leave unscathed. To add injury to disappointment, San Francisco has multiple injuries to concern itself with after a 30-23 loss to its rival on the road.

Kyle Shanahan said Monday that Emmanuel Moseley suffered a high ankle sprain that will keep him out “several weeks,” in what is a major blow to an already very weak 49ers secondary that lost Jason Verrett in the first game of the season.

Elijah Mitchell, meanwhile, is in the concussion protocol. He returned to Sunday’s game, surprisingly, after fumbling a ball on a play in which he went into a “fencing response” in which his arms tensed up; a common sign of a head injury.

This is the second-straight week, following a similar incident with Marcell Harris last week, when a 49ers player cleared the initial in-game protocol before returning, then entered the concussion protocol the following day.

Jeff Wilson Jr. also had his knee flare up, but is expected to return to practice this week and will be day to day.

As for Deebo Samuel and Fred Warner, who were given similar initial timelines, Shanahan said Warner’s return seems more imminent.

“Fred was closer than Deebo was last week, so I expect to get Fred back at practice this Wednesday,” Shanahan said. “Deebo, we’ll go day-to-day with him. I’m hoping to get him back this week, but it’s still too early to tell.”
