It’s easy to see why the narrative that Kyle Shanahan owns Sean McVay would have legs.

McVay used to work under Shanahan in Washington, and his now 0-6 against his former boss in the six meetings between the 49ers and Rams with both men at the helm.

The most recent of which involved a wild comeback in Week 18 when McVay’s Rams held a 17-0 first half lead. It’s the first time McVay has ever lost a game when leading by that much.

It lead to McVay being asked this week if Shanahan is ‘in his head.’ McVay was succinct in his response:

“No.”

Shanahan was asked about the question on Thursday during his presser, specifically if he enjoyed the fact that McVay is getting asked about such things. Shanahan said he is not.

“Not really, I think that’s kind of silly,” Shanahan said. “I think a question like that is just giving Sean and myself way too much credit. We’re coaches. Watch what’s going on on that field and some of the players out there and the people that are competing. I don’t think it’s about Sean and I. I know he doesn’t feel that way and he knows I don’t feel that way.

“The entertainment of this business is cool and stuff ’cause it brings a lot of fans and a lot of money for everyone but I think that’s kind of pretty ridiculous. I don’t give coaches that much credit.”
