There’s more Jimmy Garoppolo injury news. You thought you were done with Jimmy Garoppolo injury news. But on Tuesday, ESPN’s Adam Schefter reminded everyone there’s always more twists and turns in the saga of James Richard Garoppolo.

Schefter reported that Garoppolo would need offseason surgery, as expected. But it will be on his sprained shoulder, not his thumb, as NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport had reported would be necessary.

Despite that, Schefter reports, there is “significant interest” in Garoppolo, and while the recovery timeline means he likely won’t return to the field until the start of July, he is expected to be traded by the end of March.

To recap, Garoppolo is getting offseason surgery imminently, just not on the body part it was expected to be. While Schefter reports it is “not expected to impact his trade status,” it’s not an encouraging sign. His value will still likely be determined by the availability of premium quarterbacks, like Aaron Rodgers and Russell Wilson.
