Stephen Curry limps off court, ruled out after Marcus Smart dives on ankle

In the midst of an already ugly game, things got even uglier for the Warriors on Wednesday night.

Golden State went into the half trailing the Boston Celtics 46-32 — their lowest offensive output in a half this season — and did so without Stephen Curry on the floor.

Curry limped off the court and into the Warriors’ locker room with about four minutes remaining in the first half after the following play, when the Celtics’ Marcus Smart — known for being a relentless, energy-oriented player — dove after a loose ball.

He landed square on Curry’s ankle, undercutting him as Curry leaned down and to his left for the ball.

Warriors head coach Steve Kerr was visibly displeased with Smart after the play and ensuing one in which he was called for a flagrant foul for hitting Klay Thompson with his leg.

Kerr appeared to say to Smart, referring to Curry, “Hey man, no! You just hurt him! You hurt him!”

It was an erratic first half that spiraled out of control for Golden State as the offense struggled mightily against the No. 1-ranked Boston defense.

The Warriors took issues with the referees on multiple occasions, with Draymond Green getting a technical foul for berating the officials at the end of the half.

ESPN’s Ros Gold-Onwude reported before the half that Curry left with “foot soreness” and Moses Moody, who departed earlier, was dealing with a shoulder injury.

Neither emerged from the locker room, per The Athletic’s Anthony Slater.

Per the Warriors, Curry, deemed to have “left foot soreness,” will not return to the game.
