It’s bleak right now in Warriorsland.
Golden State followed up Sunday’s bad loss to the San Antonio Spurs with an even worse one vs. the lowly Orlando Magic on Tuesday. Yes, that’s the same Magic team who at 20-53 have the third-worst record in the NBA.
Yet, they were better than the Warriors, who shot poorly, turned the ball over and had back-to-back boneheaded defensive lapses that cost them the game.
Draymond Green was blunt in his assessment when talking about the performance.
“I think we’re playing soft,” Green said. “I think we’re playing stupid. We’re just not playing good basketball and we’re getting punked. It’s hard to win the game getting punked and that’s kind of where we are right now.
“You get to these games and we’re losing a lot of fourth quarters. We’re not really losing the whole game, we’re losing a lot of fourth quarters. And that’s execution, but in order to execute it requires a certain level of physicality and we’re not meeting that. No disrespect to the Orlando Magic, that’s one of the worst teams in the league and we can’t match that with them. So if you can’t match that with them you’re definitely not going to do it against the great teams.”
Tuesday’s loss was Golden State’s third straight, and second straight without Stephen Curry, who is likely to miss close to the remainder of the regular season with a foot issue. The Warriors will have to figure out how to play without him, or they will fall out of the No. 3 seed in the Western Conference. They currently hold just a two game advantage over the Utah Jazz.
“I wouldn’t necessarily say it’s concern, but that’s what’s happening. I don’t doubt that we can fix it, but if we’re going to win some games that’s got to be fixed.”
