Draymond Green ejected against Memphis for flagrant foul in questionable decision

The referees decided to call their own number on Sunday in the series opener between the Warriors and the Memphis Grizzlies.

In the waning minutes of the first half, Draymond Green fouled Brandon Clarke, then tried to foul him again to prevent the basket. In doing so, his arm swung high, caught Clarke around his neck, then snagged the jersey.

By just about every account, it should have been deemed a flagrant one foul, which would net the Grizzlies possession after the free throws for the unnecessary contact. TNT’s on-hand rules analyst and former referee, Steve Javie, said it met the criteria for a flagrant one, not a two.

But the referees in Memphis decided to call a flagrant two, to the astonishment of just about everyone in attendance and those watching at home.

Stephen Curry’s face says it all. Per Anthony Slater, Curry said to the referees, “that’s fucking crazy.”

You can see Steve Kerr say, “Are you fucking kidding me?” here:

Green went running around the court following the ejection.

The Grizzlies promptly went on a 7-2 run to close out the half with a 61-55 following what is likely a game-changing call that massively increases the chance of Memphis winning.
