At age 34 and six years since he last donned an NFL uniform, Colin Kaepernick has finally landed a workout.

Kaepernick will work out with the Las Vegas Raiders on Wednesday according to Adam Schefter. Kaepernick has not played in the NFL since the 2016 season with the 49ers, after which he says he was “blackballed” for kneeling during the national anthem and has been unable to land an NFL job since.

The circumstantial evidence for Kap’s claim is strong. Despite starting 11 games and throwing 16 touchdowns to 4 interceptions in 2016, Kaepernick never got invited to a single workout, and was only brought in for a meeting with the Seahawks in 2017.

Kaepernick, 34, last publicly threw to receivers at halftime of Michigan’s spring game, at the invitation of his former coach Jim Harbaugh.

“If you’re talking about the playing side, come in, let me compete,” Kaepernick said in a recent interview. “You can evaluate me from there. The NFL’s supposed to be a meritocracy. Come in, let me compete. If I’m not good enough, get rid of me. But let me come in and show you.”

Kaepernick would be competing with Jarrett Stidham and Nick Mullens for one of the backup jobs behind Derek Carr in Las Vegas.
