The moves never stop with Farhan Zaidi’s Giants.

San Francisco made another trade on Tuesday morning, acquiring utility player Hayden Cantrelle from the Marlins in exchange for utility player Luke Williams. Cantrelle plays primarily second base, shortstop and centerfield.

Cantrelle, 23, is a switch-hitter and was spending his first season with the Marlins Double-A affiliate before the trade, slashing .185/.312/.337. The Giants always value versatility, and are searching for quality reinforcements with the likes Steven Duggar, LaMonte Wade Jr., Brandon Belt and Austin Slater all on the Injured List. The injuries have seen the likes of Stuart Fairchild, Kevin Padlo and Donovan Walton get starts in recent days.

Cantrelle was a fifth-round pick by the Brewers in 2020, and has yet to put up good minor-league numbers thus far. At his best, Cantrelle projects as a good defensive player who has the speed and ability to get on base that could see him hit near the top of the order.

RHP Mauricio Llovera was also optioned to Triple-A Sacramento on Thursday, while Jake McGee is expected to be activated off the IL on Friday.
