Luis González pulled after taking pitch to shin

Luis González won Rookie of the Month, then he took a baseball in the shin.

At the top of the second inning on Friday’s game vs. the Marlins, González was clocked by a 92.7 mph fastball on his shin. He tried to walk and then jog it off, eventually taking his base at first.

But after a few pitches, first base coach Antoan Richardson waved to the dugout while González winced and showed signs of pain in his gait. He was relieved by infielder Donovan Walton who took over at second, pushing Thairo Estrada to the outfield.

González was coming off an outrageously productive month, and despite being sent down to Triple-A Sacramento for four days after Tommy La Stella’s return, was named the National League Rookie of the Month by hitting .368 with one home run and 15 RBI.

Gabe Kapler said postgame that Gonzalez is day-to-day with a right leg bruise. He is not in Saturday’s lineup.
