This can’t be serious right? Right???

The notion that Kevin Durant — who recently requested a trade from the Brooklyn Nets a year after signing a four-year deal — would like to return to Golden State, seemed like the type of thing you’d float to get a laugh. Now, it’s being reported as a real possibility.

Marc J. Spears of ESPN’s Andscape dot com, one of the most respected reporters in NBA circles, said that Golden State indeed has interest in a reunion with Durant, and echoed Zach Lowe’s sentiment that the Warriors have the best package to land him.

Here’s what Spears said on ESPN Radio on Sunday:

The one team, I’m telling you guys, is keep an eye on the Golden State Warriors. Golden State could have the best package for both parties. Jordan Poole, Jonathan Kuminga, All-Star Andrew Wiggins and former No. 2 pick James Wiseman.

What the Nets want is a young All-Star and perhaps a future All-Star. They are all under 30. They also want picks, maybe the ability to swap picks. But if you can get those four players, if I’m the Nets I’m very, very happy.

And for Kevin Durant, the Warriors are very familiar with him and vice versa. Like, he knows where to live in San Francisco, he knows how the offense works, he knows he can win a championship there. Yeah, he and Steve Kerr will probably need to figure some things out, but with each passing day that this carries on, I heard the Warriors have interest.

In terms of a young haul, in terms of people being happy on both sides, to me the Golden State option is the best option.

If you don’t believe that, and we don’t blame you, here’s the audio:

One thing not mentioned in that report is whether or not KD himself is interested in a return to the Bay. That would seem unlikely, considering we are just three years removed from him wanting out after three straight trips to the Finals. Reportedly, Durant is interested in joining the Suns or Heat

Durant is a true enigma, however, and his return to Golden State would undoubtedly make them overwhelming NBA Finals favorites once again. Those two facts have to put the notion of a Durant return in the realm of possibility, as mind-boggling as that scenario seems.
