During the fifth inning of Thursday’s Giants-Padres game in San Diego, Padres left fielder Jurickson Profar suffered an apparent head or neck injury.

Profar, charging in on a shallow pop fly, took a knee to his head from shortstop C.J. Abrams. He initially tried to walk the injury off with trainers in the outfield, but collapsed to the grass shortly thereafter.

Profar eventually got stretchered off the field to a round of applause from the Petco Park fans and Giants dugout. He shook his fist to the crowd while immobilized.

The delay lasted over 10 minutes. At the time, the Padres led, 1-0 thanks to Manny Machado’s solo home run off Logan Webb.

Profar’s injury could have significant ramifications in the National League wild card race. The outfielder has been San Diego’s second-best hitter, registering a 117 OPS+. He’s hitting .244 with eight home runs on the season.

San Diego already has Fernando Tatis Jr. and Wil Myers on the injured list.

More than anything, though, hopefully Profar’s injury isn’t too serious and he can fully recover.
