At least year’s deadline, the Giants, in the midst of a historic season, acquired Kris Bryant.

But with Bryant’s departure, the retirement of Buster Posey and failure to sign Bryce Harper a few years ago, this has felt like a team in serious need of star power for years.

Carlos Rodón brought that this offseason, but can opt out after this year. So, with someone like Juan Soto on the table in a potential trade, will the Giants make a major move?

Team president Farhan Zaidi joined KNBR on Thursday to discuss the team’s position.

He suggested that they are well-positioned to acquire a big name, intimating, but not explicitly stating that they have interest in Soto.

“I certainly think we’re in that position now where any kind of prominent name who is available, whether it’s in the offseason, through free agency, or in the trade market, unless we really just don’t have a way to fit that particular player in,” Zaidi said. “I think in our roster, we have a lot of flexibility and guys that can move around positions where almost any spot I think we could add somebody who’s sort of a superstar-caliber player. I think we have that flexibility both roster wise and financially.”

He said he’s interested to see the ebb and flow of trade discussions around the league over the next 10 days. While you could pencil teams in as buyers or sellers right now, Zaidi said that teams often won’t know their exact position on the market until two or three days before the deadline.

“You got a lot of teams that are in contention, teams that three weeks ago, maybe didn’t think there’s any way that you’d be in contention,” Zaidi said. “Suddenly they’re in the thick of it. So that’s the other thing.”
