Left-handed relief has been an issue for the Giants this season, and they are still looking for reinforcements.

That explains Wednesday’s move where San Francisco claimed left-handed reliever Andrew Vasquez off waivers from the Philadelphia Phillies. In a corresponding move, SF designated Triple-A outfielder Steele Walker for assignment.

Currently, the Giants have just three lefty relievers, Alex Young, Jarlin Garcia and Thomas Szapucki, on their active roster. Jose Alvarez is on the 60-day Injured List and will hopefully return before the end of the season. Sam Long is in Triple-A getting stretched out as a starting option.

Vasquez, 28, will report to Triple-A Sacramento, and has made just nine major league appearances this season, posting a 8.10 ERA with the Blue Jays. Overall, Vasquez has the same career ERA in 21 major league appearances with the Twins, Dodgers and Blue Jays.

Originally, drafted by the Twins in 2015, Vasquez has posted decent numbers in Triple-A, posting a 3.72 ERA in 72 appearances.
