The 49ers began their practice week a day later than usual with a Monday night game against the Rams waiting on the other side of the weekend.
Kyle Shanahan provided injury updates on multiple players on Thursday, when Daniel Brunskill participated in practice for the first time this season.

- Trent Williams (high ankle sprain)
- Arik Armstead (plantar fascia)

- Azeez Al-Shaair (knee sprain)
While Brunskill played at tackle mostly when he began with the 49ers, he’s transitioned inside, and Shanahan sees him firmly as an interior offensive lineman. He’ll get reps at both guard and center.
Meanwhile, no injured reserve decision has been made on Trent Williams.
“We’re still hoping he doesn’t have to go on IR,” Shanahan said. “Won’t need surgery or anything like that but still not sure with the high ankle sprain.”
Ty Davis-Price also suffered a high ankle sprain a week earlier and has not been placed on injured reserve. Teams can only have eight injured reserve returns in a single season, so there is an added level of caution about placing players on the list.
As for Arik Armstead, he’s dealing with plantar fasciitis in his right foot. He and Ross Dwelley were seen doing rehab work on the side of the 49ers’ practice field.
“Yeah it is improving. He was real close to going [on Sunday],” Shanahan said. “We thought he did good in that workout before the game, but we held him back and it’s still the same today as it was on game day so hopefully it’ll be good by Monday.”
That was the extent of the injury updates, but Shanahan also mentioned that the running backs would have rotated more against Denver if the 49ers had more sustained drives. J.P. Mason and Marlon Mack would have gotten touches, he said.
He also mentioned that were it not for the altitude, Tevin Coleman (who has the sickle cell trait) would likely have been activated against the Broncos.
