49ers open practice windows for Ward, Verrett, re-sign veteran WR to practice squad

The best defense in the NFL is about to get some major reinforcements.

A much-improved 49ers secondary, with Charvarius Ward leveling up the outside corner position, Talanoa Hufanga having an early-season coming out party and the likes of Tashaun Gipson Sr. and Deommodore Lenoir impressing, it’s felt like an embarrassment of riches.

That only appears set to increase.

On Wednesday, the 49ers announced that they opened the practice windows for CB Jason Verrett and DB Jimmie Ward.

Both will be eligible to return to the active roster at any point in the next three weeks, and will revert to their previous injured list (injured reserve for Ward, reserve/physically unable to perform for Verrett) if they are not activated in that window.

An additional piece of expected news is that veteran WR Willie Snead IV, who was promoted for game day, was signed back to the team’s practice squad after being released.
