Colt McCoy expected to start for Cardinals, star receiver to miss out

The Arizona Cardinals will not be at full strength on Monday night vs. the 49ers. It’s another Colt McCoy game.

McCoy started last week for Arizona with Kyler Murray nursing a hamstring injury. McCoy himself was in question, after leaving the team’s win over the Rams with a knee injury, injecting Trace McSorley into the game.

But McCoy is healthy enough to go, and should not be taken lightly. The last time he faced the 49ers, it was an embarassing performance for San Francisco.

McCoy, who was 22-for-26 with 249 yards and a TD, led the Cardinals to a 31-17 win over the 49ers. It’s a similar mark to what he did last week, going 26-for-37 with 238 yards and a TD in a 27-17 win over the Rams.

He will not, however, have Hollywood Brown to throw the ball to. While Brown was initially expected to return this week, that decision has been postpoed; he had his injured reserve practice window opened earlier this week as he works back from a foot injury.

Arizona declined to activate him, instead activating veteran tight end Maxx Williams from the practice squad after Zach Ertz’s season-ending injury last week, along with defensive lineman Michael Dogbe.

For SF, the only lingering question is about Samson Ebukam, who is questionable with a minor quad injury and Achilles tendinitis. Arik Armstead (foot/ankle) has already been ruled out and T.Y. McGill has been activated from the practice squad.
