There was a lot of chatter this week from former 49ers running back Raheem Mostert — comments that he says were taken out of context — in the lead up to the Dolphins-49ers matchup on Sunday.
According to tweets from Tyler Dunne who wrote a piece on the Miami Dolphins in which Mostert was quoted, Mostert said the following when comparing Miami to San Francisco and Tua Tagovailoa to Jimmy Garoppolo:
“We have way more talent here,” Mostert said. “It’s going to get spooky.”
When comparing Garoppolo to current Dolphins quarterback Tua Tagovailoa, Mostert said:
“We have a quarterback who can actually sling it.”
Mostert said on KNBR that he was misquoted and not trying to compare the Dolphins to the 49ers. Still, Deebo Samuel wasn’t about to let his former teammate off the hook after the 49ers rolled to a 33-17 victory:
“I thought they had the best talent. Oh…my bad,” Samuel said sarcastically.
“I mean not too surprised,” Samuel said about how the 49ers forced Tua Tagovailoa into a couple interceptions. “Best defense in the league, you know. They put a lot of pressure on Tua, I feel like he got shook early and he was just throwing gimmes out there.”
Samuel also sent out a tweet during the week directed at Mostert that said “Raheem be real with yourself”.
Mostert did not have a strong game in his return to Levi’s Stadium, gaining 30 yards on seven carries. Postgame, he was reportedly affected by the Jimmy Garoppolo news, cutting his media session short to go speak with Garoppolo and his family. Mostert revealed on KNBR this week that he and Garoppolo are very close.
