The first day of the winter meetings has brought the first big signing of the offseason.

Though Giants fans would’ve liked to see former Dodgers infielder Trea Turner head to Oracle Park, him leaving the National League West is the next best thing. Turner has signed a massive, 11-year, $300 million contract with the Philadelphia Phillies, according to ESPN.

The deal reunites Turner with his old Washington Nationals teammate Bryce Harper, and turns the reigning NL champs into an even more formidable club.

Turner leaving ends a one-and-a-half year tenure with LA. Turner played all 160 games at shortstop for the Dodgers this season, and was named to his second All-Star team while leading the NL in plate-appearances (708) and at-bats (652). Turner batted .298/.343/.466 with 21 home runs, 100 RBIs and 27 stolen bases.

The $300 million deal is the biggest contract given out so far this offseason, and is just the f10th $300 million deal in MLB history.
