It appears the Giants have filled out their rotation with a familiar face.

San Francisco has signed starting pitcher Sean Manaea to a deal worth $25 million over two-years, according to Jon Heyman. The deal reportedly includes an opt out.

Giants fans will remember Manaea as a member of the Oakland A’s from 2016-2021 and with the Padres last year. He’s expected to fill out the back of the rotation after a rough year with San Diego, in which he posted a 4.96 ERA (career 4.06) but still had a relatively decent 1.29 WHIP (career 1.22). Unfortunately, Manaea was particularly bad vs. the Dodgers, posting a 11.72 ERA vs. them in 2022.

This is likely Farhan Zaidi trying to buy low on a pitcher who seems to be on the decline, but at age 30 is still young and just a few years removed from the top of the A’s rotation. Manaea will join Logan Webb, Alex Wood, Alex Cobb and Anthony DeSclafani in the projected Giants rotation. Carlos Rodon remains a free agent and while the Giants are still interested in re-signing him, it seems like a long shot.
