The 49ers didn’t escape their divisional round win unscathed. But they didn’t sustain any injuries they believe will keep a trio of key players out of the conference championship game in Philadelphia on Sunday.

Kyle Shanahan provided updates on Monday, saying that three players will be day-to-day:

  • Christian McCaffrey had a calf contusion
  • Elijah Mitchell sustained a groin injury
  • Charles Omenihu strained his oblique

While day-to-day designations can be vague, and Shanahan said that all three will be monitored throughout the week, the early indications are that they will be available this weekend.

“We’re expecting to get them all back for Sunday but we’ll see how it goes through the week for practice and hopefully it’ll go well and get them ready for Sunday,” Shanahan said.

He gave the team a so-called “victory Monday” which eases the burden on players the day after the game. They review tape with their position coaches, but it’s a quasi off day.

The other lingering injury question was about Jimmy Garoppolo.

Shanahan said last week that he wasn’t expected to have a chance to return this week, and that assessment hasn’t changed.

“I don’t think [he’ll practice],” Shanahan said. “I think he gets an X-Ray tomorrow to see how things are going. But still same as last week, I’d be very surprised if he was out there this week.”

The assessment has long been that there is an outside chance for Garoppolo to return for the Super Bowl, especially with a two-week layoff after the conference championship. But that requires the 49ers to get there first.
