49ers defensive lineman Charles Omenihu was arrested in San Jose on Monday afternoon for suspicion of domestic violence according to San Jose police.

Officers responded to the 300 block of Santana Row after receiving a call from Omenihu’s girlfriend, who said that he pushed her to the ground during an argument. Officers did not observe any visible injuries but she reported pain in her arm. She declined medical attention during the investigation according to police.

Officers spoke with Omenihu at the scene who they say was cooperative when giving his statement. According to police, “based on the victim’s statement and the complaint of pain, Omenihu was arrested for California Penal Code Section 243(e)(1), misdemeanor domestic violence. In addition, an emergency protective restraining order was sought and obtained for the survivor. Omenihu was served with the restraining order by investigating Officers.”

Omenihu was booked in the Santa Clara County Main Jail for misdemeanor domestic violence, but has since posted bail and is no longer in custody. The case will be submitted to the Santa Clara County District Attorney’s Office for possible charges, according to a police statement.

Omenihu joined the 49ers in 2021 after being traded for a sixth-round pick. He arguably had the best game of his career two weeks ago in the wild-card round, when he had 1.5 sacks and a forced fumble.

The 49ers released a statement on Tuesday morning saying they are “aware of the matter involving Charles Omenihu and are in the process of gathering further information.”
