Every day there seems to be news of another Giants injury.

Over the weekend it was Mitch Haniger with an oblique strain, then Alex Cobb was knocked out of a game after being hit in the knee, then Ronald Guzman sustained an injury to his pitching arm.

Monday provided no respite.

Brandon Crawford has been shut down for at least a week with discomfort in his left knee. It’s the knee he tweaked sliding into home plate last June. Crawford’s partner on the left side, third baseman David Villar, also had an MRI that revealed a mild strain in his hip flexor.

For now, Gabe Kapler feels good about Villar and Austin Slater, who has also been out with injury, being ready for Opening Day. For Crawford and Haniger the outlook is less clear.

If Crawford isn’t ready for Opening Day in New York on March 30, it’s likely that Thairo Estrada would start in his place. Haniger’s replacement is less clear with Luiz Gonzalez also injured. Stephen Piscotty could be an option there.
