We finally know where Aaron Rodgers intends to play.
Rodgers broke his silence on the “Pat McAfee Show” on Wednesday, saying he wants to play for the New York Jets but that there is a hold up as the Packers and Jets try and agree on trade compensation.
“I made it clear my intention was to play and to play for the New York Jets, and I haven’t been holding anything up,” Rodgers said. “It’s been compensation that the Packers are trying to get for me, and kind of digging their heels in.”
Rodgers said that after his darkness retreat, in which he spent four days in complete darkness, he was 90% sure he was going to retire. Rodgers says that the Packers’ tone changed, and that they no longer wanted him to finish his career in Green Bay.
“I f—ing love that city. I love that organization and always going to have love for that organization. The facts are right now they want to move on and now so do I,” he said.
Complicating things is the fact that Rodgers signed a a three-year, $150 million contract extension in March, 2022. It includes nearly $60 million in guarantees. Most of that, however, comes via pro-rated bonus money, so he will only count $15.8 million against the cap in 2023.
