49ers sign former Lions edge rusher [report]

The 49ers have experienced a ton of turnover on the defensive line during the free agency period, and it looks like they are still looking to make an addition before the NFL Draft.

According to Tom Pelissero, San Francisco will sign former Lions pass rusher Austin Bryant after hosting him for a visit earlier in the day.

Bryant, 26, is a free agent after the Lions decided not to extend his rookie deal. Bryant was a fourth-round pick in 2019, and served as a rotational piece during his four seasons in Detroit, playing in 33 games. His best season came in 2021, when he recorded 4.5 sacks, five tackles for loss, and six QB hits in 14 games with five starts. Last season Bryant played in just 34% of the team’s snaps, and didn’t record a sack.

Bryant was an outstanding player at Clemson, and was named as a first-team All-American in 2017. He won two National Championships with the Tigers.
