SAN FRANCISCO, CA – The San Francisco Giants held their annual Media Open House today to reveal “what’s new” at Oracle Park for the 2023 season. Leading off the event was the announcement made by Giants President and CEO Larry Baer that the longest tenured employee in San Francisco Giants history, the man who joined the team the same year the Giants moved west from New York in 1958, legendary Clubhouse Manager Mike “Murph” Murphy will be inducted on the Giants Wall of Fame on Sunday, Aug. 27.

“After 65 seasons – first starting as a bat boy, to becoming the visitors clubhouse manager in 1960 to the Giants clubhouse manager in 1980 and going into semi-retirement in 2015 – Murph is officially retiring and as he shared with us, that at 81-years old it’s time to finally spend a summer away from baseball,” said Baer. “There was no hesitation when we began discussing how to honor one of the most beloved figures in our organization and that was to put him on our Wall of Fame, our living tribute to the generations of San Francisco Giants greats including players, owners and now Murph!”

The team also unveiled their marketing campaign, highlighted first-ever promotions and special events, announced on-site bag storage, and previewed new food offerings. Supporting documents including the full list of highlights, marketing creative and promotional graphics can be found here. In the coming days a video highlight package and photos from the event will be added.

The service will be available starting two hours before game time/event start time until one hour after the game/event ends.

Transportation

Oracle Park continues to be the league leader in public transit options. The new T Third/Central Subway, with a stop one block from Oracle Park, provides a fast new way to get to Market Street, BART, and Muni lines throughout San Francisco. Late-evening BART service will be more reliable, as a Transbay Tube earthquake retrofit wraps up. Caltrain is the best travel option from the Peninsula and South Bay for most games, but fans should be mindful of service changes on weekends as Caltrain finishes construction for its electrification project, which will make service faster and more frequent starting as soon as next season.

For fans who drive, pre-paid parking passes or SpotHero reservations are required in Lot A/Pier 48 and the King-Townsend Garage (153 Townsend Street). We encourage fans to use SpotHero to find parking options at dozens of facilities and a wide range of price points. Fans can save money by booking in advance and parking a few blocks north of Oracle Park. Visit sfgiants.com/transportation to learn more.

It is as safe and comfortable as it has ever been to bike or walk to Oracle Park, with bikeways along the waterfront and throughout SoMa. Fans can use our free Bike Valet service, located along the Portwalk, or bike racks behind the bleachers to park their bikes securely once they arrive at the game.

Mission Rock

The multiphase Mission Rock project that is turning Lot A into a 28-acre mixed-use neighborhood will reach many milestones in 2023, beginning with the completion of the first residential building – The Canyon. At full completion, Mission Rock will deliver at least 1,000 housing units, 40 percent of which will be designated affordable housing, more than one million square feet of office space, eight acres of parks and open space and approximately 200,000 square feet of retail. The grand opening of the first phase of the project is projected for early 2024 and consists of four buildings, two residential and two commercial, one of which will serve as the new global and North American headquarters for longtime Giants partner Visa, a five-acre China Basin Park and approximately 85,000 square feet of retail and restaurant space.

Technology

In partnership with Comcast Business and Extreme Networks, the Giants will unveil a dramatic upgrade to the Oracle Park WiFi network on Opening Day . This network refresh will make Oracle Park the first outdoor professional sports venue to be completely powered by a WiFi 6E network and services. The installation includes approximately 900 new Extreme WiFi 6E access points in a combination of overhead and under-seat placements that will provide unparalleled connectivity for fans and back-of-house use throughout the ballpark. This revolutionary WiFi 6E network will dramatically improve the connectivity experience by enabling devices to download and upload data faster and with lower latency, speeding up everything from ticket scans to streaming replays to mobile concession orders.
