After more than 19 years working with the Oakland Athletics, Glen Kuiper has been let go.

On Monday, according to the San Francisco Chronicle, the Athletics’ TV play-by-play man was dropped by NBC Sports California following an incident on May 5 when he uttered a racial epithet.

Before an A’s-Royals matchup, Kuiper discussed a trip he had taken to the Negro Leagues Baseball Museum in Kansas City along with fellow broadcaster Dallas Braden.

He referred to the museum as the “n——” Leagues Baseball Museum while recounting what he called a “phenomenal day.”

Kuiper apologized during the game and afterwards, in a statement through NBC Sports California, which read:

“I could not be more sorry and horrified by what I said. I hope you will accept my sincerest apologies.”

He had been suspended since the incident and the network decided Monday to end its relationship “effective immediately,” per the Chronicle.

Kuiper — who is the brother of Giants broadcaster Duane Kuiper — had been the TV play-by-play broadcaster for the Athletics since 2006, and began covering them as a reporter in 2004 after covering Giants games in varying capacities previously.
