Yes, we’ve done this before, but as long as it’s in the realm of possibility, we’ll do it again.
The rumor mill is already churning a day after the Lakers were eliminated from playoff contention and amid reports that James may not return to play at all next season.
If he does want to keep playing, Kevin O’Connor of The Ringer believes it could be with the Warriors.
“Interest between LeBron and the Warriors could be mutual,” O’Connor wrote. “LeBron is BFFs with Draymond and he’s already said that Steph Curry is the current player he’d most like to play with. Last year on The Shop, LeBron’s business partner, Maverick Carter, pushed him to share the team he’d most want to play for other than the Lakers and LeBron said it’d be the Warriors (or the Heat).”
The Vegas oddsmakers have reacted in kind. According to Points Bet, the Warriors have the fourth best odds to land James next season at +1500. They are behind the Lakers (-700), retirement (+500) and Cavaliers (+1200). They are tied with the Knicks and Heat.
James would have to request and be granted a trade from the Lakers to play elsewhere next year. He is under contract next season and has a player option in 2024-25.
