The Giants’ coaching staff under Bob Melvin is already getting filled out, and it won’t include Antoan Richardson.

Richardson, who is known to be the first Bahamian MLB coach, told KNBR.com that we won’t be with the Giants in 2024. He had worked in the organization since 2019 and was San Francisco’s first base coach for the past four seasons.

Richardson was well-regarded within the team, particularly for his ability to connect with players. Before serving as first base coach, he worked as the organization’s minor league outfield coordinator and a field coordinator.

In his role as first base coach, Richardson was also responsible for coaching the outfielders. He had played outfield for 12 years professionally, logging 22 total MLB games for the Yankees and Braves.

As a player, Richardson’s most famous moment was scoring the game-winning run on Derek Jeter’s final career hit in 2014.

Richardson is getting replaced at first base by Mark Hallberg, a holdover from Gabe Kapler’s staff. Matt Williams is taking Hallberg’s former post at third base.

Richardson wasn’t included in the Giants’ coaching staff hiring announcement Friday night. Alyssa Nakken, Justin Viele, Pedro Guerrero, J.P. Martinez, Taira Uematsu and Hallberg are set to return to San Francisco through the regime change. Kai Correa — who served as interim coach after Kapler’s firing — and pitching coach Andrew Bailey’s statuses are among the other coaches who went unmentioned in the announcement.

Williams, former Giant Pat Burrell, and Ryan Christenson have been announced as lead coaches under Melvin.
