Brandon Crawford wins third straight Gold Glove Award

The Giants didn’t put the most entertaining product on the field in 2017.

They did, however, have the game’s most entertaining shortstop.

On Tuesday evening, Brandon Crawford took home his third straight Gold Glove Award as the Giants’ shortstop beat out fellow finalists Addison Russell of the Chicago Cubs and Freddy Galvis of the Philadelphia Phillies. Crawford was one of two Giants players named a finalist for a Gold Glove Award in 2017, as catcher Buster Posey was also a finalist after Posey took home his first Gold Glove in 2016.

Crawford has long been considered one of the top shortstops in baseball, and he became the first National League player since Jimmy Rollins (2007-2009) to win three straight Gold Gloves at shortstop. Omar Vizquel won back-to-back Gold Glove Awards in 2005 and 2006, but his bid for a third straight fell short in 2007 at the age of 40.

In 2018, Crawford will enter the third year of a six-year, $75 million contract that will keep him in San Francisco through 2021.
