Buster Posey’s right hip rehab and his long-term future has been a subject ripe for discussion. He played through the injury, which nagged him for the entirety of last season, until deciding to undergo surgery, which took place August 27.
At the time, the surgery was for a right hip impingment and a torn labrum in the hip. But according to Bruce Bochy, the Giants also discovered a microfracture in Posey’s hip when he went in for the surgery.

Bochy gave Posey a vote of confidence, saying, “I think we’ll see a different player,” following the surgery. According to Kerry Crowley, the injury prevented Posey from firing his hips when he swung, something that likely limited Posey’s power, an evident issue for him throughout the year.

There has been no indication from Bochy or the Giants’ front office that Posey will move from catcher as his primary position. He will likely play a similar spate of games, with some coming at first base, according to Bochy.
