Marlins optimistic that Stanton would accept trade to Giants [report]

A report surfaced on Thursday morning that Giancarlo Stanton was concerned about a potential trade to the Giants, based on a perceived lack of depth following the team’s 98 loss season.

Interestingly, another report surfaced less than an hour later by Jon Morosi of MLB Network, saying that if the Marlins do indeed decide to trade Stanton to the Giants, they are “optemistic” he would accept.

The original offer from the Giants was reportedly Joe Panik, Tyler Beede, and Chris Shaw in exchange for Stanton and Marlins second baseman Dee Gordon. On Thursday, another Morosi report said that the Marlins would be willing to trade just Stanton for that package of players, provided that the Giants are willing to eat $250 million of the remaining $295 million on Stanton’s contract. Another report on Thursday said that the Dodgers are Stanton’s preferred destination, and that he wants to gauge their interest before accepting a deal elsewhere.

Based on the way things are going, expect to hear more on this story as the day progresses.
