Kerr: Warriors now in ‘real NBA’ after being in ‘dream’ last few years

The dream is over — at least for now — according to Warriors head coach Steve Kerr.

After losing their third consecutive road game on Sunday night for the first time in the Kerr era, Kerr acknowledged that this recent 2-5 stretch is the most difficult since he took over in 2014-15.

“Oh yeah,” Kerr said when asked if this is the most difficult stretch he’s had as a coach. “But I’ve had a dream run for four and a half years. We’ve had such a charmed existence the last four seasons, so of course this is the toughest stretch we’ve been in.

“But this is the real NBA. We haven’t been in the real NBA the last few years, we’ve been in this dream, and so now we’re faced with real adversity and we’ve got to get out of it ourselves.”

The adversity hasn’t just been on the court. The rocky stretch involved a verbal altercation on the bench between Draymond Green and Kevin Durant in their loss to the Clippers last Monday, the content of which was reportedly so personal that it led to Green’s suspension without pay for the next game. Multiple reports called the blow-up the most heated moment since Durant joined the team, and one that may have affected Durant and Green’s relationship permanently.
