Buster Posey wants this absence to last as long (or short) as his last one.

The Giants catcher, placed on the injured list Wednesday with a right hamstring strain retroactive to June 2, said he hopes to come off the shelf after the minimum 10 days, as he had in May when recovering from a concussion.

“Just have to wait and see,” Posey said Friday before the Giants hosted the Dodgers.

The 32-year-old said he ran Friday and is set to hit and possibly jog Saturday. He came up lame while running out a ground ball Saturday in Baltimore, but he said the problem didn’t originate on that sprint — or when trying to avoid pitcher Miguel Castro, who was covering first.

“I felt it tighten up on me early in the game,” said Posey, who said he has never dealt with a hamstring injury before. “That last at-bat, kind of hit that tweener ground ball and pretty much felt it grab on me going down the line.”

The Giants called up Aramis Garcia, who was set to start Friday, to share the catching duties with Stephen Vogt.

“[Posey’s] hope and our hope is when his time is up, he’ll be ready to go,” manager Bruce Bochy said.
