Giants place Buster Posey on injured list

Buster Posey

Buster Posey’s return did not last long.

The Giants placed their star catcher on the 10-day injured list Wednesday, retroactive to June 2, with a right hamstring strain. Posey had not played since Saturday, when he injured that hamstring running to first. An MRI showed a mild strain, manager Bruce Bochy told reporters.

The Giants had been hopeful the setback would not result in an IL trip. It’s the second of the season for the 32-year-old, who had returned to action May 17 after a concussion sidelined him.

In turn, the Giants activated reliever Trevor Gott from the injured list. He hadn’t pitched since May 24.

Posey has slashed .257/.321/.408 in 46 games this season, a year after playing in 105. His expected heir apparent as catcher, Joey Bart, just returned to action Tuesday — and in style, hitting a home run for High-A San Jose.
